Why Quarantine from the Coronavirus is the best time to dust off that old camera

Photography is a skill that with a little practice can turn from hobby to passion to profession. If you're like me and have been given the option/mandate to work from home, this is both a blessing and a curse. The curse is that we all are going to somewhat experience a bit of cabin fever, but the blessing is we can use our inevitable wandering attention spans to look at bettering ourselves and our hobbies.

Why look at photography instead of the office for the 30th time? Photography is one of the few great hobbies that has the potential to quickly turn from hobby to side hustle. This of course already grows if you already HAVE a camera sitting at home (which I feel most do).

If a camera like this isn’t buried in your closet, its for sure buried in your parents closet.

Okay Robin, I guess that makes some sense but why now? Well with isolation being the one thing people are advising and perhaps the one thing people aren’t necessarily eager for, Photography can be a much needed escape.

Just look at my roommate @austinield here, out in nature away from everyone, stoked on the shot.

Pick up the camera, drive to the less populated parts of town or even your nearest beach/national park! Explore taking landscapes, how different settings in camera can yield much different results to look at, and try bringing an object/subject to try and explore with. The government hasn’t by any means outlawed going outside and have actually deemed hiking, walking, running, etc… as essential activities to still be allowed to take part in, so just make sure when you go out, just practice some social distance!

Going on a hike? Take the camera!! (OKAY I KNOW THEY’RE NOT SIX FEET APART THIS WAS TAKEN BEFORE)

The biggest thing with the Coronavirus (from what I’ve read I'M BY NO MEANS AN EXPERT JUST MY OPINION) is first being cautious of those who you interact with and those are most susceptible to the flu so elderly people, kids, and people with preexisting conditions (such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease etc…). Beyond that, treat it as any bad flu case where you just need to be adamant about keeping clean and free of germs and get plenty of preemptive fluids and rest. This is why taking some time ALONE outside of the house out in nature AT LEAST SOMEWHAT ISOLATED is a great escape from the boredom of “house arrest”. Just don’t invite the entire town and go to Daytona Beach.

and its great excuse to get some outdoor puppy kisses (thats me)
